✔️ REVIEWS News – Paris/France.
It is one of the cult films par excellence: Two as in bad luck and brimstone. With Italian duo Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. The film, released in 1974, is now almost 50 years old, but it is still often shown on television – a rather rare phenomenon which testifies to the popularity of comedy. That's probably what Netflix officials thought too, who apparently used that popularity as an excuse to conjure up a mix of remake and on-screen sequel. However, the new version was not well received by fans.
Two like bad luck and brimstone 2022
Since August 24, 2022, the new edition of the Italian classic can be viewed as part of a Netflix subscription. In terms of content, the film is about the sons of Ben (Bud Spencer), who after 25 years tries to get their father's beach buggy back. They must assert themselves against a gang of bikers.
However, the remake was not well received by fans. On the IMDb film platform, the film received a rating of 2,8 stars out of 10, while readers on the Rotten Tomatoes website gave it only 11 out of 100%. For comparison: the original scored 7,3 stars or 79% on those same platforms.
Not the only remake
In recent years, more and more studios and producers are turning to remakes of old classics. The reason is simple: well-known names should also carry the new releases and thus reduce the risk of a financial flop. It also seems to work well, because although fans often complain vehemently about the remake, they still watch the movie. And thus make money flow into the coffers of the studios. Negative reviews on rating portals do not harm the concept. No wonder we have recently seen new versions or sequels of Star Wars, Rambo, Rocky, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park or more recently: The Matrix, Kevin – Home Alone and Lord of the Rings.
