Mujjo has historically produced some of the best leather cases. Its latest iPhone 13 lineup is as good as ever, but still doesn't support Apple's Magsafe, which may be a deal breaker.
The updated case lineup supports iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. In our review, we look at the iPhone 13 Pro version of the case.
Mujjo also offers two styles of cases. There are standard leather cases and a second version with an integrated card slot on the back. As these cases do not support MagSafe, we opted for the wallet versions to add functionality to the back of the phone.
Beautiful luxurious leather
Once again, Mujjo impressed us with their quality cases. It uses full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather to fully wrap the shell.
Sides of Mujjo iPhone 13 Pro Cases
Mujjo also protects the bottom of the phone with precision cutouts for the Lightning port, speaker and microphone. It wraps around the case, covering all the buttons, but remains open around the mute rocker for easy access.
Many large leather cases have a TPU or rubber bumper around the front or camera bump, but Mujjo only has leather. It creates an incredibly well-designed seamless look.
This case also offers a better feel in hand. Nomad's cases, while excellent, have TPU sides that feel cheap to hold, although the back is nice.
An all-leather case provides a more premium look and feel.
Inner lining
The interior of the case is made of soft, satiny Japanese microfiber to protect the iPhone if debris gets inside.
Camera bumps into Mujjo cases
Mujjo allowed a one-millimeter raised lip around the camera bump, protecting your lenses when the phone is placed on a table. Our versions also have the wallet pocket on the back, sewn in place and opening on the top.
Mujjo claims that two to three credit cards, IDs or other cards can fit in there. Because the leather doesn't bounce, we didn't feel comfortable pushing it beyond two.
Many credit cards have embossed lettering, which makes them stand out more. We can see three suitable cards if you only use thin cards or no embossed lettering.
Craving for MagSafe
Unfortunately, Mujjo has not yet adopted Apple's MagSafe. When we asked why MagSafe wasn't an option – more than a year after Apple introduced the feature – Mujjo told us there wasn't enough demand.
We find this response both surprising and unacceptable. Almost every other case manufacturer has adopted MagSafe support, and there is a growing range of MagSafe accessories that are rendered unnecessary by adorning a Mujjo case.
Some of the MagSafe accessories that we cannot use with the Mujjo case
We're fans of Apple's magnetic connection system. With a Mujjo case, we cannot use a MagSafe wallet, many MagSafe chargers, MagSafe car mounts, MagSafe batteries, etc.
MagSafe is not going away. We hate that Mujjo's case breaks the rack with so many different accessories.
For what it's worth, wireless charging still works with these cases. You may need to remove your credit cards from the back first.
Should you buy Mujjo cases for iPhone 13?
Beyond the lack of MagSafe, we also had a major issue with Mujjo's cases. This is probably model specific, but again a dealbreaker for us.
Apple's camera bump on the iPhone 13 Pro is so massive that it leaves very little room to remove credit cards from the back of the phone.
We can't remove our apple card because of the camera bump
Plastic and flexible cards can slip off with just a few manipulations. Cards that are metal and do not flex are almost unremovable.
Our Apple Card in particular wouldn't budge. We had to remove the case from our phone before it could slip off.
A MagSafe wallet would not have these issues.
Mujjo Black and Monaco Blue Cases
If you don't use MagSafe and don't have a metal card, we highly recommend the Mujjo case. It's incredibly high quality and it's not Mujjo's fault, the camera bump is just as big as on the iPhone 13 Pro.
For those who want to use MagSafe or have a metal credit card, you'll need to protect your phone with a different case.
