The film starring Joey King, Robbie Brenner and Andrew Deane is based on the teen romance novel “The In Between” (2022) written by screenwriter Marc Klein.
On February 12, 2022, the writer told The Wrap that the idea for the book originated as an approximately 100-page manuscript, very similar to a movie script, albeit with the story of the romance defined. It was this first writing that was entrusted to actress Joey King and she decided to be part of the producers of the film adaptation.
