HOT RED PEPPERS released another new single, "Not the one". The song, which can be streamed below, is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Unlimited Love"which will arrive on April 1 via Warner.
HOT RED PEPPERSthe first new LP with the guitarist John Frusciante since 2006 "Arcadium Stadium" was again produced by Rick rubin who previously worked on "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" (1991) "Californication" (1999) " Besides " (2002) and previous "Arcadium Stadium".
The band said of the new album: “Our only goal is to lose ourselves in the music. We (John, Antoine, Chad et Chip) have spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, perfecting our craft and showing up for each other, to make the best album possible. Our antennas tuned into the divine cosmos, we were so grateful to have the opportunity to be in a room together and once again try to improve ourselves. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely and arranging the fruit of these jams with great care and determination. The sounds, rhythms, vibrations, words and melodies delighted us.
“We aspire to shine a light in the world, to uplift, connect and bring people together. Each of the songs from our new album "Unlimited Love" is a facet of us, reflecting our vision of the universe. This is the mission of our life. We work, focus and prepare so that when the biggest wave comes, we are ready to ride it. The ocean gave us a mighty wave and this record is the ride that is the sum of our lives. Thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy. »
Frusciant said, “When we started writing, we started playing old songs from people like Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, THE LOSS, NEW YORK DOLLS, Richard Barrette and others. Gradually we started bringing in new ideas and turning the jams into songs, and after a few months we were just playing new stuff. The feeling of effortless fun we had when playing other people's songs stayed with us the entire time we wrote. For me, this record represents our love and our faith towards each other. »
On track in the lead "Black Summer", ethereal guitar underlines the introspective lyrics as the beat unleashes a hypnotic drum groove underscored by an evocative bass. He inhales quietly only to exhale with a massive chorus, "It's been a long time since I made a new friend, waiting for another dark summer to end," before a guitar solo echoes through the skies and down. back. For the music video, the band teamed up with famed director Deborah Chow (Disney +it is "The Mandalorian", “Obi-Wan Kenobi”). The result continues a tradition of captivating cinematic visuals – with a twist.
The interaction between the group again borders on intergalactic – but elevated to another stratosphere. "Unlimited Love" represents the united spirit of four individual souls still fearlessly exploring the future of their eternal friendship and musical congregation.
"Here Forever" follows a staccato bassline into a rhythmic wormhole as the hook promises, "She's the kind of girl that makes you wanna go faster now." And whether it's wild horns and booming basses on "Aquatic Mouth Dance" or the poetic dreamscape of a confessional ballad "Not the one", the album twists and turns with joyful unpredictability. At "Poster Child"a funky riff boosted by the magic of the wah pedal wobbles in tandem with the delivery as a happy chorus sets in. "The Great Apes" charges towards a primal bugle call. For nearly six minutes, "It's only natural" in and out of hypnotic harmonies and magnetic grooves. The slinky funk of "She's a lover" bleeds into singable gang vocals and a dancefloor-ready chorus, while “These are the means” sees a sweet melody give way to guitar and vocal catharsis.
" What do you think " relies on nodding percussion as vocals float with the tempo only for the guitar to ignite the chorus. A chorus of analog synth colors the intro of "The Bastards of Light" as a celestial crescendo rises "White Braids & Chair Pillow" beyond the clouds. Hit the highways, “One-way traffic” speeds up the funk to an intersection of airy bass and drums. "Veronica" swaps the band's sunny Los Angeles for south side Chicago and a near-cinematic story about the title character. Then there is "Let Them Cry" where the trumpet punctuates the momentum before culminating in an emotionally charged guitar solo. "Heavy Wing" takes flight on a climactic burst of distortion and vocal conjurations. The walk ends at “Tangelos”. Connected to delicate guitar and an emotionally charged vocal, this otherworldly lullaby gives way to a vibrant, vulnerable and vital final note as it slips into the arms of feedback.

last fall, HOT RED PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith told Rolling Stone that the four band members "got along great" and "really listened to each other in a new way."
"All of our records are just really good snapshots of where we are at that point," he said. "You can't really be like, 'Oh, hell, I hope this is as good as…' So you start to have preconceived ideas about what you want to write.
" To see, John hasn't been in our group for 10 years. It's a long time. So of course it's going to sound different, but it's going to sound like the four of us because we have this special chemistry together. That resembles HOT RED PEPPERSbut it's different and new, and for me it's great.
“We really like it and we're proud of it and it has to start there. If other people like it, great. If people compare it to this or [say] it doesn't look like this, we have no control over that. But yes, we are all very happy with the record. »
Regarding the return of Frusciant, Forgeron said, “He is so dedicated. He's so into it. He works so hard. We all work hard, but he's there with all the overdubs and magic he brings. »
HOT RED PEPPERS will embark on a world tour this summer. The North American leg kicks off in Denver, Colorado on July 23 at Empower Field at Mile High. It will end in Arlington, Texas on September 18 at Globe Life Field.
Frusciant originally joined HOT RED PEPPERS following the death of the founding guitarist Slovak hillel in 1988. This formation recorded two very successful albums which made the group popular with the general public: " Breastmilk " et "Blood Sugar Sex Magic". Sadly, Frusciant fell into a deep heroin addiction which led him to quit the band while on tour to support "Blood Sugar Sex Magic". Frusciant joined PEPPERS six years later, playing on the 1999 album "Californication"2002 " Besides " and 2006 "Arcadium Stadium" before leaving the group again in September 2009.
In October 2020, Frusciant told the Australian digital radio station Double-J who plays with his RHCP group mates Anthony Kiedis, Chip et Forgeron again, it was like "returning to the family." I am extremely comfortable with these people. It felt like time hadn't passed when we started playing, pretty much, with a few minor exceptions, like how Chad and I gradually got our communication together in a new way. Basically, we're all as comfortable with each other as we've ever been, and it was that way from the start. »
