Microsoft Office Suite is a suite of programs that pretty much covers all the most basic needs you might have when working in an office environment.
You have your dedicated program that handles text documents, another program that does presentations, etc.
It even has a program specifically designed to act as a spreadsheet, called Microsoft Excel, which can handle information spanning hundreds of data cells.
However, some users have reported that they sometimes receive an error message in Microsoft Excel stating that the program could no longer add cells.
Just FYI, I had the same problem trying to insert a column. […]
The full error message I was getting was:
Microsoft Excel you cannot insert new cells because that would push nonblank cells from the end of the worksheet. These cells may appear blank but have blank values, formatting, or a formula. Delete enough rows or columns to make room for what you want to insert, then try again.
Steps to take if Microsoft Excel cannot add new cells
Luckily, unlike many other messages you normally receive, this one comes with an explanation of why this is happening.
Apparently the error message only occurs when an entire row is merged.
This means that when you inserted the content into the workbook (probably via copy/paste), you somehow added content to the last row of the sheet.
For this reason, you will need to remove this content before you can add new rows.
This doesn't mean you should delete the data in the cells, but the formatting you may have copied along with the values.
- Select all data which was copied
- Find it Of course toolbar tool
- Open the drop-down menu and select clear formats
After following these steps, you should be able to insert data without any further issues. Also, to avoid similar problems, do not paste data in a spreadsheet using Control + v.
Instead, do the following:
- Right-click on a free area of the spreadsheet
- Selectt Special bonding
- Select Values
- Press Okay
By following all the steps mentioned above, you should be able to insert cells into an Excel spreadsheet without any additional issues.
