Netflix's Creative Horror Captivates With High Tension And Unbearable Silence
The Deaf Horror Writer Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) lives in a remote cabin in the woods. Here she wants to focus on writing. She hopes her next work can build on the success of her horror novel Midnight Mass. But one evening, a masked serial killer shows up at the door and has chosen her as his next victim. A life and death struggle begins for Maddie.
The scenario that sounds generic at first sight home invasion thriller is taken to a whole new level by the deafness of the protagonist and the creative, heart-pounding mise-en-scène. However, Maddie's deafness is in no way presented as a hindrance, but rather her other heightened senses and altered perception of space as a strength that makes her superior to her tormentor.
