If you have a Mac, you can type the Apple logo symbol by simply pressing a key. However, you'll never find it by accident, and it takes more fiddling to do it on an iPhone or iPad.
For a company that keeps giving you Apple stickers whether you like it or not, Apple is oddly hesitant about its logo. There's no sign of that in the myriad icons and emoticons available in Messages, for example.
But if you're on a Mac, you can grab it. If you're on an iPhone or iPad, you can cheat a bit to make it type for you.
How to Type an Apple Logo Symbol on Mac
On any Mac, in any app:
- Hold down the Option key
- Hold down the Shift key
- Press the letter key K
You can even do it in the Finder. If you prefix a document name with the Apple logo, it is sorted alphabetically at the bottom of the list.
If you're doing it in a word processor, there's an option to adjust the logo. Mainly, you can change the size to match your text: it's an inserted, typed symbol, so changing the font size changes the icon.
There are also some fonts that have their appearance changed, but there is no obvious pattern to this. The Chalkboard font, for example, displays a coarser, more blocky Apple logo, and the Chalkduster font displays it as a chunky outline.
How to Get the Apple Logo Symbol on iPhone and iPad
If you have an Apple Magic Keyboard connected to your iPad, or possibly other Bluetooth connected iPads or iPhones, you can type the same Option-Shift-K.
Otherwise, there is no way to type the Apple logo on iOS or iPadOS. However, it is available on these devices, it can be displayed, it is only the writing that is the problem.
Therefore, the easiest and quickest thing to do is to find the symbol online – and here it is – and then copy and paste it.
This is not ideal if you regularly need to use the symbol for some reason. But once you've done it, even just once, you can make your iPhone, iPad or Mac remember it for you with Text Replacement.
How to Get an Apple Logo Symbol by Text Replacement
This is most useful on iPhone and iPad, but once you set it up on one of your devices, it's available to all.
So for speed, it's faster to set it up the first time on a Mac.
- Open System Preferences On Mac
- Choose your favorite Keyboardthen texts
- Click on the + sign at the bottom
- Type a memorable word or chain of letters into the Replace box
- Then click on With box and type Option-Shift-K
Say your memorable word or chain of letters is "TypeApple". Now whenever you type that accurately and then hit the spacebar, "TypeApple" will be replaced with an Apple logo on your Mac.
And also on your iPhone or iPad.
On Mac, iPad and here iPhone, you can create a trigger phrase which, when typed, produces the Apple symbol.
You can also configure it on these devices. But since you can't type it directly, that's another case where you must have found and copied the symbol, ready to paste it.
- Go to Settings on iPhone or iPad
- Press General
- Choose your favorite Keyboard
- Tap Text replacement
- Choose the + sign top right
- In the first box, Phrasepaste apple logo symbol
- In the second box, Shortcuttype the memorable word or chain of letters you want to use
- Press save top right
It's curious that on the Mac you type the memorable word first and then the Apple logo, while on the iPhone and iPad it's the other way around.
However, regardless of the device on which you create it, it is immediately available on all your devices. So even on a Mac, if you forget Option-Shift-K, you can type the word "TypeApple" - or whatever you've configured - and it will work.
