Microsoft Edge has come a long way in recent years and now has a variety of valuable integrations and features to offer users.
One such feature is Internet Explorer mode, which allows users to quickly navigate to the websites your business needs.
However, many claimed that they could not use this mode due to the lack of IE integration in the Group Policy issue.
Here are some fixes that will probably help you enable IE mode in Edge.
What is IE Edge mode?
Microsoft has included a mode that allows users to quickly access websites required by their employer in a single browser.
This mode is called IE mode. For backwards compatibility with existing business applications and internal sites, Edge IE mode can be used.
Now back to the question: how to enable IE mode on Edge via Group Policy?
What can I do if Internet Explorer integration is missing from Group Policy?
1. Download the latest Microsoft Edge policy template
- Open the Microsoft Edge for Business website.
- Under the You need to download older builds and versions section, select the version, version and platform of Microsoft Edge, then click on the Get Policy Files option.
- Click on the Accept and download button.
- When the download is complete, right click to extract the MicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplates.zip Record. Click on the Extract here Is Remove all and select the desired location. (you can use WinRAR to extract the files)
- Navigate the following path inside the extracted one MicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplatesMicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplates folder: windows\admx
- Select the msedge.admx Yes msedgeupdate.admx files and right click and select Copier.
- Go to the next path and dough files here:
C:\Windows\Policy Definitions - In the Admx step six folder, inside the MicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplatesMicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplates folder, open the language folder that represents your language.
- Select the msedge.adml Yes msedgeupdate.adml files and Copier.
- Find the following path corresponding to your language:
C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US
(Instead of en-US, you must select your language.) - Pate the files to the location.
2. Enable Edge flag for IE mode
- Open your Edge browser and type edge://flags/#edge-internet-explorer-integration in the address bar.
- At the top you should notice a line that says Enable IE integration. To select Internet Explorer Mode in the drop-down menu by clicking the box next to that line.
- On your desktop, create a shortcut for Tables.
- Right click on the icon and select Properties.
- Add --i.e.-test-mode at the end of the text in the destination box. After that click on Okay and therefore Apply.
Can I configure Internet Explorer integration using the registry?
You can certainly enable IE mode by changing registry values; however, this is not recommended as any unwanted changes to the registry can cause system crashes and lead to a BSOD.
The main cause of this problem is that users have not downloaded the latest Microsoft Edge policy template.
With this file in the right place, IE mode can be enabled from Edge settings and flags.
However, enabling it from the flags will give you other useful settings, most of which may be experimental, so make sure you don't flip the switches without enough information about the feature.
