On April 26, actors and followers of the new Colombian production for Netflix received the good news that 'Pálpito' has become the most watched series in the world, after six days of its premiere.
In the face of such a feat, Infobae Colombia interviewed one of the characters that most caught the attention of viewers is Juan Tarquino, who gives life to 'Gabato', a dark being who is in the shadow of the Mexican and who was in charge of kidnapping Valeria (Margarita Muñoz), wife of Simón (Michel Brown) to be the donor of Camila's (Ana Lucía Domínguez) new heart.
In dialogue with this medium, Tarquino told how his process was to obtain the role of "Gabato", how he came to prominence with Miss Lesley Wolf, one of the main representatives of the art slip in Colombia who emerged four years ago after having lived for a time in Buenos Aires and arrived in search of new directions in his native land and public acceptance.
Infobae Colombia: How did you receive the news of being ranked first on Netflix with 'Pálpito'?
John Tarquin: That's something we still don't believe, I think even Netflix is surprised, not because we don't trust our product but because we didn't expect it to be very successful, of course we know that we have done this with great care and professionalism, but being number one is something no one expects, there will always be a surprise to be number 1 in countries that no one imagines being or on absolutely territorial markets, which only see their products, it is an honor and a great pride, we celebrate, we are happy, we take advantage of this important moment.
Infobae Colombia: How did Juan Tarquino transform Lesley Wolf to bring 'Garabato' to life?
John Tarquin: Garabato and Lesley Wolf are two characters that Juan Tarquino plays and I think there is no transformation from Lesley to Garabato, if I think there are things that I stole from Lesley to put on him a little and I mean the posture of the body, to this elegance, to this presence a bit of silence, of the non-verbal and of this imposition.

Whenever people ask me what Lesley Wolf has that Juan doesn't have, I say that in addition to being very friendly, because it allows me to come in and be more outgoing, it's just that it makes me more expressive and Garabato is something else, it's a character that she always has in conflict, different from the one that I could have invented for Lesley but they have something very common and that is present all the time.
Infobae Colombia: 'Gabato' is always well placed on its site, are these characteristics of the character? did you think so? did you imagine it like that?
John Tarquin: I imagined it that way from the beginning, what Leonardo Padrón had written about Garabato, this profile they give you to do the casting and then organize it. We had four weeks of rehearsals before we started recording and with Ruth Caudeli and Camilo Vega, who were the directors at the time, we started creating a bit of body language for this character, someone who was painted for be a muscular person. , corpulent, aggressive, very ugly, very strong at first impression.
But I wanted to compose it… of course, I'm tall but I'm neither muscular nor corpulent, so I wanted to compose it with a bit more elegant aggressiveness and they allowed me to come up with a lot of things, it must have a bit of rockerfor skin headas a metalhead but it also ties into what's going on with 'Mariachi' and that's why the mustache, because of a story I believed in the character and finds a pattern in his boss.
This type of union, nails painted black a bit borrowed from Lesley, I wanted to join a 'sancochito light' that would give me a different character than you would expect from a thug, I wanted to have one of the bad guys of the story that had a lot of style and a lot of class, that stood out for his looks, for his looks, for the way he wore his hair, for his mustache, for being the antithesis of what the name means, he doesn't didn't want to be a doodle, but someone very well made and beautifully painted.
It should be remembered that the plot, created and written by Leonard Padronand led by Camilo Vega, takes as its starting point the health of Camila, who suffers a cardiac arrest on her wedding day and to continue living she needs a new heart that must be transplanted. Her boyfriend, Zacarías (played by Sebastien Martinez), is a man with a dark job linked to the high spheres of power but who has his weak point in this woman. Therefore, he will do everything possible to get the organ that Camila needs to continue living.
Infobae Colombia: How did you come up with the character and how was the audition process for 'Gabato'?
John Tarquin: I come to 'Pálpito' by Lesley Wolf. Ana Piñeres, one of the CMO producers, has known my work for a long time, we have several people in common and she knows my work through Twitter, at the time I was working on 'Love for the arts', a reality show digital made by Trinity The Tuck, one of the winners of RuPaul's Drag Raceand Ana didn't miss it reality.
She learns from several acquaintances that we have in common that I have been an actor by training for more than 20 years, she contacts me and says to me: "hey, they are looking for actors, why don't you send your CV, your composite, let's see what happens”. This is the contact she made to me, we made several make calls y me quedé yo con el personaje, yo iba originally por el personaje de 'Rojo' pero no soy muy ducho con la conducción, entonces seguramente les gustó mucho mi cast y me ubicaron en 'Garabato', alguien que tenía todo menos el actor que I am.
This is how I arrived at the project, I received 10 out of 10, not only in the team up of artists, but of technicians, make-up artists, make-up artists, everything was a very nice team and very generous with me and with everyone.
Infobae Colombia: Will we see more or will we not see Garabato again in a second season?
John Tarquin: We have to ask Leonardo Padrón about it because we have very little information, but I really don't know, for now I'm happy with the way people have received the project that has been done, I think it should be in the ears of Leonardo and Netflix… I have the impression that all of this must generate an echo that will tell them that this character must be had.
How about a dragged 'Scribble', imagine Lesley taking off the wig, that would be wonderful.
During the conversation with Infobae Colombia, Juan Tarquino also spoke about his plans for the future as well as his participation in making the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community visible.
Here are some excerpts from the interview:
The actor and drag artist spoke to the cameras of Infobae Colombia and expressed the happiness he feels knowing that his character is widely accepted.
