This weekend, several quite stimulating catalog novelties are coming to Netflix, but I thought it was convenient to highlight a movie first. I am referring to 'The Timecrimes', the brilliant first film by Nacho Vigalondo that hardly anyone saw when it was released in Spanish cinemas more than 14 years ago.
Why is it worth coming back?
It is true that 'Los Cronocrímenes' did not have a very large distribution in the theaters of our country either, but it was preceded by applause in a multitude of Festivals. This is he only gave it away so that 48 spectators passed through the box office in our countrymany of you may not have seen it yet.
'The Timecrimes' stands out above all for the screenplay written by Vigalondo himself, a new demonstration that talent and good ideas will always be an unbeatable basis for building a fascinating work. In fact, it allows him to approach the subject of time travel with a new and clever approach and constantly surprise the viewer without ever sacrificing his credibility.
It's true that the film would have appreciated having more resources and that in this type of story there will always be those who focus more on the search for buts - here the clearest thing is to focus on the desire to know how it all started- that about letting go, but the truth is that 'The Timecrimes' become addicted to the riddle it posesstill entertains you and this more mundane twist on one of sci-fi's star resources suits you.
In addition, the cast is more than consistent, especially a Karra Elejalde. which modulates his interpretation as his character and the spectator become aware of what is happening. It's perhaps the character portrayed by Vigalondo himself who can be the most out of tune, but come to think of it, that attitude isn't all that strange either.
We hope that this arrival on Netflix will serve to give more circulation to a film that has more recognition outside our country than in Spain. By the way, if you are not subscribed to this platform, you can also see it on Filmin.
