In purely business terms, it was a real horror week for Netflix, because after subscriber numbers recently dropped significantly, the share price also crashed by up to 40%. To get it back up quickly, a cheaper variant of the platform Streaming has also been announced, which should be co-financed by advertising (we have reported this). On the other hand, if you look at the success of the internal production, that is to say the series and the films themselves, things look a little better. For example, Bridgerton now dominates the Nielsen charts.
Nielsen, which traditionally also measures US ratings, presented the figures for the week beginning March 21. Bridgerton reportedly aired for nearly 2,55 billion minutes across the 16 episodes produced over the two seasons. The second season was only online for three days during the survey period (as it was only released on March 25). Incidentally, the values only concern the audience in America and can therefore deviate from the information from Netflix, which is set up more internationally.

Nielsen also states that Bridgerton's audience is significantly more diverse than most series. That would be almost a third of the fans people of color. Additionally, the Shondaland format is popular with almost all age brackets, from 18-34 to 35-49 to 50-60. The distribution between these groups is fairly even. It is only in terms of gender that there is a clear trend towards women: 76% of the public are women.
Netflix itself also said that Bridgerton broke an internal viewing record with the new season. No other English-language series would have generated so much interest with a season premiere in such a short time (we reported). Only the South Korean sensation from the Squid Game series enjoyed even greater success last fall.
Also in the Nielsen charts are: The Last Kingdom with 976 million minutes over a total of 46 episodes and Inventing Anna with 558 million minutes over nine episodes. And also Ozark and Human Resources are there, as well as some Netflix realities and docuseries. Amazon Prime Video managed to place The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel among the top spots.
