Arcade Fire took to the Dublin stage at Dublin's 3Arena on Tuesday for their first show since frontman Win Butler's sexual misconduct allegations surfaced.
According to fans in attendance, the band received "delighted applause" as they kicked off the concert with a performance of "Wake Up." The arena was reportedly close to capacity, with only pockets of empty seats in the upper tiers. For his part, Butler kept on-stage banter to a minimum and made no mention of the allegations against him. Instead, he thanked the crowd "from the bottom of his heart" for coming.
Butler also mingled with the crowd and posed for photos before the concert kicked off.
In a report published by Pitchfork last weekend, four people — three women and one person who is fluent and uses them/them pronouns — accused Butler of making unwanted sexual advances and indulging others. inappropriate and manipulative behavior.
In a written statement, Butler acknowledged having relationships with the four individuals, but said they were all consensual. “I've never touched a woman against her will, and any involvement I have is just plain wrong. I vehemently deny any suggestion that I have forced myself on a woman or demanded sexual favors. That, simply and unequivocally, never happened,” Butler argued.
The allegations surfaced days before Arcade Fire's world tour kicked off in support of their latest album, US. Feist, who opens the European leg of the tour, donated proceeds from Tuesday's tour merchandise sales to Women's Aid Dublin.
