Three years ago, I asked the MobileSyrup Community “What is your service of Streaming favorite video in Canada? Fast forward to now, and the landscape of Canadian film and television broadcasting has changed significantly.
Crave offers its own original content, Starz, Showcase and HBO. This week even The Batman airs on Crave at the same time and date as it hits HBO Max in the US, and only six weeks after its theatrical release.
As always there is Netflix, which releases new originals several times a week.
Prime Video is also becoming a top player in Canada with series like The boys, Download, Invincible, The wheel of time and my favourite, VoxMachine. Prime Video recently hosted its first Canadian event to spotlight 10 new Canadian Originals. And it's worth mentioning that Prime Video has access to all of its channels.
Since the last time I asked, two new players have also entered the Canadian market — Apple TV+ and Disney+.
Apple TV+ is the first platform for Streaming to win Best Picture for his original film CODA. Alongside CODAApple TV+ offers hit shows and movies like Breakup, see, after party, morning show and another of my favorites, Ted lasso.
Canada also has Disney+ with Star content (Hulu in the US), which includes movies like The King's Man, West Side Story et Cost. There is also content like The Kardashians, the proud louder and prouder family, Cruel, and other hits like Atlanta, Poses, how i met your father et Modern family. Disney+ is also the home of Marvel and Star Wars content like Moon Knight, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Shang-Chi, Boba Fett's book, The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch and the next one Obi Wan Kenobi series.
While Canadians have access to these five big platforms, there are also other smaller streaming services like Crunchyroll, Hayu, OUTtv, CBC Gem, CBS All Access, DAZN, Shudder, Sportsnet Now, and Tubi.
I am personally subscribed to the five major platforms of Streaming and I use each of them for various movies and TV series. If I had to choose a favorite, I would go with Disney+ because I love Disney movies like turn red et Encanto and originals like Star Wars: Visions et The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But don't get me wrong, I also really like Netflix and Crave.
