The psychological expertise on Ryan Grantham

During the hearing that took place in recent days, prosecutor Michaela Donnelly presented two psychiatric reports on the mental state of the young man, who played “Jeffrey Augustine” in “Riverdale”.

Both reports agreed that Grantham was going through an intense period of clinical depression.

The possibility that the 24-year-old experienced violent urges before the homicide was considered, as well as constant suicidal thoughts. A possible marijuana use disorder has also been identified.

Donnelly clarified on the stand that White was suffering from cancer, so it seemed the actor's motives for murdering him were altruistic, meaning seeking his own good: " However, Mr Grantham was looking to save his mother from something he was going to do (…) It is something different from selflessness".

In this sense, he insisted that what the young man had committed was nothing but a "heartbreaking breach of trust" since "he was a mother who loved her son very much and who did not had no reason to be afraid of him.

It wasn't until Wednesday that Granthman revealed his feelings for his mother, on the final day of the hearing.

"NI cannot explain or justify my actions. I have no excuses. It hurts me to think how much I've wasted my life. Faced with something so horrible, asking for forgiveness seems so pointless. But with every fiber of my being, I feel it. One day, if I ever get out of prison, I hope to continue on this path to improve,” he said.

Grantham was originally charged with first degree murder, but pleaded guilty to second degree 4 months ago. Still, Judge Kathleen Ker reserved the final verdict for a later date. Meanwhile, his defense is trying to ask for a reduced sentence.
