You definitely haven't heard of the currently most-watched Netflix movie in the world - the movie begins

✔️ REVIEWS News – Paris/France.

“The Adam Project”? " The bubble "? You are laughing at me ? You are serious when you say that! The most-watched Netflix movie right now comes from Argentina and is called “Granizo”. Never heard of it? No wonder, because in Germany comedy-drama ruthlessly flies under the radar.

Netflix

In fact, one might have assumed that Netflix would have the next big global hit with "The Bubble." Why? Quite simply: the comedy, which also sees itself as a parody of the filming of the dinosaur blockbuster "Jurassic World 3: A New Age", which was affected by the corona pandemic, offers many top names. Judd Apatow ("The First Time") took the director's chair, while stars such as Pedro Pascal, David Duchovny, Karen Gillian and many surprising cameos frolic in front of the camera.

Instead, Another Job became the most-watched Netflix movie — and you sure haven't heard of this one. Because it's “Granizo”, an Argentinian tragic comedy. While "The Bubble" has clocked 12,45 million hours watched since Friday, "Granizo" is currently at 24,28 hours watched (you can read the full stats here).

What's also curious about this is the fact that this movie hasn't even been in the German Netflix top 10 since its debut. So here goes the international hit, which is currently number 1 on the Netflix charts in more than a dozen countries, flies completely under the radar. Incidentally, the Blumhouse horror "Fantasy Island" is currently at the top of the internal charts in Germany.

Home cinema tip: This horror flick is currently storming the Netflix charts – but the longer version is available elsewhere

“Granizo” by Marcos Carnevale (“El Cuartito”) is about famed TV meteorologist Miguel Flores (Guillermo Francella), who is suddenly declared public enemy number one. The reason is a terrible hailstorm that Flores cannot prevent. This now forces the man to flee the capital and take refuge in his hometown, which ends in a journey of rediscovery that is as bizarre as it is interpersonal.

Why Netflix's success should be treated with caution

The information comes from Netflix itself, which only lets itself be watched when the final Watchtime figures are released. The success of a format on the service of Streaming was measured for a period of time by the total number of hours watched for each content. Previously, it referred to the number of households that watched content, with those that watched for at least two minutes being counted. The current way of counting is different:

If you dare just take a quick look and then turn it off again, you'll contribute a few minutes to the stats. If you watch the whole, you contribute to the total duration and even several times if the film has been watched several times in full. It also brings with it some inequalities that may have once benefited Don't Look Up, for example, which beat Red Notice, breaking a key Netflix record in early January 2022 (became Red Notice still on the 1). Also because "Don't Look Up" lasts nearly 150 minutes and "Red Notice" just under two hours.

In the case of "Granizo", it is more likely that the interest in direct competition, such as "The Bubble", "Operation Black Krabbe" and "Apollo 10 ½ - A Childhood in the Space Age" by Richard Linklater is rather manageable. “Granizo” currently tops the Netflix charts in countries like Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, and Chile. It remains to be seen whether the film will still arouse interest in Germany due to its current success.
