Producers James Gay-Rees, Paul Martin and Sophie Todd are behind this project which started in 2019 with an initial synopsis which stated the following: “Drivers, representatives and team owners are living at full speed, on and off the track, during a ruthless season in Formula 1”. Time has passed and 2021 has been special for different reasons, but mainly for being the longest year in F1 history with 22 races and for the numbers that have enriched an unprecedented season that has left Max Verstappen as champion.
The first episode takes us back to the start of the year, being a fresh start for everyone after a 2020 that saw them battered by the Coronavirus pandemic. On this occasion, the health crisis is present, but with the motivating addition that the public will be back with a reduced capacity, which later in England would be 100% completed with more than 140 people. The first thing to highlight about this season is the technical capacity they offer year after year, with a production rarely seen for sports of this type, which is why it can generate additional interest that does not occur at other occasions.
One quality they were able to leverage in a positive way is that 2021 for Formula 1 has been a truly unforgettable year with the Mercedes Benz and Red Bull Racing teams vying for top spot, but that doesn't mean the other teams are left aside, since each of them will have a particular story to tell outside of the competition. From new faces to runners who have been through camps, they all carry a story that Netflix used to leave as the result of a great show for its fans.
Another point in favor is that the 2021 season was cinematic and each of its episodes is placed in such a way as to generate a certain expectation and surprise, even if we already know how it all ends.
